“Success isn’t how much money you make. It’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” – Michelle Obama

The main aim of BYTe being above, we had our first networking meet in Indian by Nature on 24th August 24. The meet was primarily for networking and connecting everyone to a common goal. It was a platform provided to parents to share the journey they have undertaken with their Persons of Determination, seek help from within the community, and brainstorm with like-minded people to solve common problems and provide solutions. In this meet we inched successfully towards:

1. Building our tribe
2. Identifying each parent as an inspiration to others on a similar journey
3. Sharing untold stories

We are on a mission to bring change in the special needs community, no matter how miniscule. Twenty seven parents, their young adults with special needs and few service providers who support this cause, attended the session. Each journey shared there was unique and inspiring. Parents shared their hardships, challenges and ways they managed to overcome them. There were some delicate moments and we were left teary eyed while listening to a few. The session had some strong moms, some who were vulnerable, a sibling who is supporting her parents in raising a PoD sibling, few passionate dads, each one contributing effectively towards raising the PoD.

The journey of BYTe has just started, we wish to be able to provide a platform where the family members can meet without inhibitions or fear of being judged by the society. A place where the children with diverse abilities feel comfortable and included. A forum where we can organize sessions beneficial to them. We are aiming at independence for these young champs and what better way than to brainstorm during these networking meets and innovative ideas can be generated.

While the story sharing was in progress, our young adults kept busy with activities like word search, coloring, and puzzles. The session was followed by some delicacies and conversations. We parted ways, rejuvenated, hopeful and determined that together, we can make a difference.
